Hello! I’m Jackie Davis.
I founded RoomScape Interiors in 2000. I’m a speaker, writer and former TV personality on the HGTV program “Decorating Cents”.
Today, I continue to have the privilege of helping individuals and families just like yours create comfortable, inviting rooms to support the way you live.
From one-room urban walk-ups to sprawling suburban mansions, rooms can be completed in a single day using your existing furniture, art, and accessories. Or, new furnishings and decor can be added to complete your vision.
The backstory
When I was growing up in Brooklyn, New York I was bused across town to an elementary school in a predominantly white neighborhood where many of the houses had the iconic picket fence surrounding a well-manicured lawn.
It was not my reality. My brother, sister and I lived with our parents in a 4-room (not 4-bedroom) basement apartment. You walked down into the apartment from concrete steps closed off by an iron gate.
I was confused, intrigued, and maybe a little embarrassed. Why didn’t I live in a house like my classmates did or the middle-class families portrayed on television? When we left Brooklyn and moved to a single-family house, I felt like George and Louise from the TV show “The Jeffersons” – we were “Movin on up…We finally got a piece of the pie”!
Looking back, I realize that the contrast between our Brooklyn apartment and the houses with the white picket fences influenced my curiosity about the environment and how it has the power to shape your life.
Why I do what I do
That tiny Brooklyn apartment certainly influenced my life.
I went to Cornell University to study civil and environmental engineering, but graduated with a different major. After graduating from Harvard Business School, I held jobs in marketing and marketing programs management at Fortune 500 high-tech companies.
Then, one day I decided to follow my passion and study interior design and decorating at the New England School of Art and Design… while working full-time. I went full circle back to environments!
Today, I am an interior decorator. I am at home helping people create physical and mental space so they are happier, healthier, and more productive.
For many years I’ve devoted time and money to organizations that support women and children living in transitional housing aka homeless shelters.
One of my most rewarding experiences was seeing women pull themselves out of poverty and make a better life for their families. What did it take? Having their basic needs met: food, shelter and clothing – the security that many of us take for granted.
I’m very fortunate to help people realize their potential and the potential of their homes.
